It can be very frustrating to run out of a particular color of sanding sugar while you’re in the middle of a baking or decorating project. Just buying the specific colored sugars can increase the cost of baking quite a bit. Why not just make your own! It LITERALLY takes less than 2 minutes for each color.

Here’s how:

IMG_8370INGREDIENTS:
• 2 tbsp sugar
• food coloring
• 1 small sealable plastic bag

DIRECTIONS:
1) Add sugar to the bag.
2) Drop in the food coloring to achieve your desired color. Don’t oversaturate.
3) Make sure the air is out of the bag and seal. Shake and knead sugar until the coloring is evenly distributed.

You can use it immediately or store it for use later. If you need more sugar, just adjust the amount to get the desired quantity of a particular color. Try it with your preferred sugar or sugar substitute. Get funky with your colors! It’s a fun project to do with kids too. Have fun!
